JACK NICHOLSON

A Hollywood legend. Few living actors have such an impressive career. Who doesn’t remember him in Stephen King’s‘ The Shining’ or ‘One flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest’.

The artwork exists out of 44 layers of colorful paint. The bottom layers are made of green with pink on top – two complimentary colors. You would not immediately expect it but these colors are naturally present some skin tunes. The top layers are brown and shades of skin tone which completely blend with the green and pink. The 44 layers of colors make the artwork look abstract up close but make for a photorealistic portrait once looked at from a distance.

For this new series, I’ve taken two strong elements of the earlier series. From 2015 until 2017 my artworks primarily had colorful background layers but the top layers were black, grey, and white. From 2018 until 2020 I opted for softer pastel backgrounds and more expressive and realistically colored portraits. For this series, I’ve combined colorful backgrounds with realistically colored portraits. The best of both worlds.
